"When there is no investment, there is no expectation"

My Story

Every morning I get up I follow the same routine. I start with daily hygiene of-course, then prayer and meditation. On this particular morning it was different. I had one of those moments where something came over me, a reflection is the best I can describe. It started with something from my past. This reflection or memory triggered an emotion. That emotion was a sense of “gratitude”.

As I sat down on my bed my eyes shifted to my walk-in closet. Immediately I was transported to the year 1999. This was the day I walked out of jail. I was wearing a pair of sneakers that was so small, I was walking on the heels.

I had nothing!

no credit, no home to call my own, and definitely, no idea as to how to start any business. In fact, at this time I was completely dependent on the state and receiving disability checks. I was on my way to a transitional living facility called Foundations. One goal I had at the forefront of my mind; and was to never go back to where I just exited. Fast forward today, I live in a 6-bedroom 2-bath home that I built from the ground up. All from the proceeds of following my dreams of owning my own Halfway House Business.

At Foundations I got as actively involved as I possibly could. I wanted better for myself. I started working the desk at night, and before long, I was managing the day and night shift. At that time I started dating my present wife. She suggested to me that I should open my own halfway house. After that seed was planted, I never
thought about anything else. I became obsessed with the idea. As a result, I begin writing out my goals.

I decided to create a vision board. I also sought out information that would help me reach my goals; however, there was no google, Facebook, or Instagram at that time. I don’t remember having access to Wikipedia. My drive got in the ears of the powers that be and eventually I was terminated.

The owner assumed that I would start a halfway house and take all the clients with me. Well, fast forward today, I ended up surpassing that Owner and everyone else who did not believe in me enough to share any type of information that would help me succeed in accomplishing my goals.

The moral of this story is that you will have roadblock when you are trying passionately to accomplish your goals; however, you must keep pushing forward.

Believing in yourself, being consistent, respect the process, hard work and a good support system, even if it’s one person can and will pay off. It did for me. I want to see each and every one of you win.
